1. You know those trees we have outside that have pink, white or purple blooms on them in the summer but look naked right now ‘cause there’s nothing on them? Well, they’re called Crape Myrtles. My Dad says now is the time of year to give them a trim. He says the Hard Freezes should be over by mid-February, so it’s time to trim them up. You be careful out there as I know my Dad says a lot of damage can be done if you don’t do this right, and my Dad should know as he is an expert! He says they should be an umbrella shape so the shoots go straight up. He says “There’s an art to it, son.”
2. Mom loves her flowers and told me to let you all know that now is a good time to freshen up your flower beds with mulch…..I like to play in this stuff. It will make them look so pretty and it won't be so hot either. She also said that girls don’t want to get dirty doing this so….call my Dad and he will send his guys out to do it.
3. Mom and Dad say, “THIS IS FOR ADULTS ONLY!” They say that now is the time to apply a pre-emergent weed killer to prevent the germination of spring weeds and they say kids like me shouldn’t get near the stuff.
4. I like lots of color and you can have some color in your yard this spring by planting Azaleas now. Azaleas grow good around and under Oak trees. If you already have some, don't cut them yet - wait until……………..to be continued in next issue………...say Mom and Dad!
