Changing Your Smile Can Truly Change Your Life!

Before and After

Have you ever met someone you thought would really look great, if only they had a nicer smile? Have you ever wanted a nicer smile yourself? Do you desire a smile that not only looks fantastic but allows you to live free from dental pain and infection? Do you want a smile that conveys confidence, happiness, and even success? This is the goal that Dr. Marc Cauchon and the dedicated Team at Alachua Dental have for each and every one of their clients. It is a goal many have achieved… and so can you! “We have had the good fortune of changing the lives of many, many people in North Central Florida. People who had all but given up hope of ever having a pleasant, pain-free smile”, says Dr Cauchon.

In these tough economic times, it is important to have every advantage you can get, in order to be successful. A pleasant smile can go a long way towards getting you what you want out of life. In 2000, Harris Interactive conducted a Smart Smile Survey, for Align Technologies, and found that sixty-four percent of those surveyed agree that people with pleasing smiles are more outgoing. A whopping eighty-seven percent acknowledged that an attractive smile is very important to one’s self-esteem! Muscle and Fitness magazine actually did a survey to find out what the single most attractive attribute of a person was. The results showed that a great smile beat out muscular fitness!

For the past 16 years, Dr. Cauchon has been helping to change the smiles of his clients and, in the process, has changed their lives! He has developed a huge following, with patients from as far away as Switzerland coming to visit him in his quaint, yet high-tech, dental office in Alachua, FL. He can help you, too!

Dr. Cauchon is a 1993 graduate of the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Since then he has sought to improve his technical skills, by studying at, and becoming a Fellow of, the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). LVI, arguably the world’s premier post-graduate dental institute, is where dentists from around the globe train to provide their patients with cutting-edge restorative dentistry. Only 200 dentists in the US (600 globally) have earned the distinction of Fellow, at LVI. To earn this distinction, a dentist must complete well over 250 hours of continuing education courses, including live-patient care, lectures, and laboratory work. The rigorous curriculum includes subjects such as: neuromuscular dentistry, advanced occlusion, dental aesthetics, Full Mouth Reconstruction, and much more.

While Alachua Dental provides a complete spectrum of General Dentistry services, Dr. Cauchon’s passion lies in providing life-changing dentistry to his clients with old, worn-down teeth. According to Dr Cauchon, “While not everyone who comes into our office needs Neuromuscular/Full Mouth Reconstruction, there are quite a few folks out there who would benefit greatly from the advances in modern dentistry. People whose bites have collapsed over time, people with numerous missing and/or broken teeth, even people who suffer from frequent headaches have found this treatment modality of great benefit to them. I am amazed at the number of people who live with daily headaches.

Quite often, there is a direct relationship between the way one’s teeth fit together and one’s headaches. Approximately 90% of body pain comes from the muscles. The mandible is held in position by a series of muscles (also tendons and ligaments). If the muscles responsible for jaw position are constantly working and are not able to rest and effectively rid themselves of their metabolic by-products, the result is often pain. In the area of the head and neck, this pain is usually manifested as headaches and neck aches.”

Other signs and symptoms of an improper bite include: broken and/or worn teeth, clenching, grinding, vertigo, insomnia, nervousness, difficulty swallowing, lower back pain, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), numbness of the fingers and poor posture. Occasionally, simple adjustments to the tooth structure are all that is needed to eliminate some of these signs and symptoms, while at other times, more complex treatment is required to eliminate them. More complex treatment may involve the fabrication of an “orthotic”. This device is similar to a common ‘nightguard’, but is much more involved. It is designed to train the muscles responsible for jaw position to be comfortable at a new position. The case below shows a “Before and After” of a Full Mouth Restoration involving the fabrication of an orthotic to change the client’s bite. This client had Full Mouth Reconstruction done, to correct a number of dental problems, including an over-closed bite, multiple missing teeth, and misshapen teeth. The client would not smile before and was the constant recipient of jokes about his smile. Now, he smiles all of the time and looks fantastic! He is more confident in himself and feels great!
